Running Pace Calculator

In the running sport, you must first set a pace that you will be able to keep up for the remaining distances you will cover, so that you can finish and accomplish the whole race. If you run faster than your usual pace or force yourself to be faster, you will certainly develop many negative effects to both your body and mind; excess fatigue, you will tire faster, your motivation will be reduced, as well as the worst case scenario which is injury. By training constantly, you can find your perfect pace that would bring you to the finish line without any major problems.

There are many things you can do in your training to further develop the right pace for you. One is by running hard in one mile, this is to beat your personal time and see the improvement you’ve been making in a certain amount of time. First, go to an oval and jog for a lap for warm up, then walk 3-4 minutes. Then run hard for 4 laps which is equivalent to 1 mile, but don’t force yourself to run very fast, just faster than you normally do. Time your run and use it to beat it for the next hard run. You can do this every 2 weeks or so, progress will be visible then.

Another way is to get used to your desired pace while your training try to run your desired pace at a certain distance; let’s say for a half mile. Then you can verify your pace and correct it if needed to every quarter mile. Then for every week, try to improve the distance at this desired pace. This, in time, will get you used to your goal pace.

If you want to record your initial pace, distance, and time so you can improve it next time, you can use the Running Pace Calculator. This calculator uses Peter Riegel’s formula which is “t2 = t1 (d2/d1) ^1.06” to work out your total time, distance and predicted distances to further develop your running pace. To use this calculator, you must enter your primary distance covered, the time it took you to finish it, and your forecast distance on your primary time. The results you will get are the predicted time you will finish the race and the objective split time per kilometers.

For example a runner wants to find out his time when he races for the event. He enters the training session distance which is 10 kilometers. Then he enters the time he has finished those 10 kilometers which is 50 minutes. Finally, he inputs the expected distance he will cover for those 50 minutes when he will be racing in the event. By clicking the calculate button, he will get the predicted race time which is 46 minutes and 18 seconds and a target split time of 4 minutes and 59 seconds per kilometer.
